Egypt Tours begin a unique Cairo experience. First, head to the spectacular Baron Empain Palace, also known as El Palais Hindu.

The Baron Empain Palace

You will find this amazing palace in the heart of Heliopolis. It shows great luxury and a bold artistic vision. A French architect built it for a Belgian businessman named Édouard Empain. As you walk around, you will see how it mixes Indian and European styles into one grand home.

Elegant Details

Be sure to look closely at the detailed carvings and grand balconies. You can also admire the dramatic towers that reach toward the sky. While you explore, your guide will share stories about the Baron’s life. You will learn all about the “golden age” of this famous neighborhood.

🕌 The Timeless Mosque of Ibn Tulun

Next, continue to the magnificent Mosque of Ibn Tulun, one of the oldest and largest Islamic monuments in Egypt, built in 879 AD.

This historic mosque stands on a rocky hill known as “Shukr” on Mokattam Mountain. Most importantly, it features Egypt’s first spiral minaret, which rises proudly into the sky. As you climb the minaret, you will enjoy panoramic views over Old Cairo.

In addition, the mosque once served as a shelter for pilgrims traveling to the Hijaz from North Africa during the 12th century. It was the focal point of Al-Qata’i, the capital of the Tulunid dynasty. Today, its vast courtyard and simple yet powerful design create a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

🏠 Gayer-Anderson Museum – A Hidden Gem

Afterward, step next door into the charming Gayer-Anderson Museum. This unique museum consists of two Ottoman-era houses dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Major R.G. Gayer-Anderson, a British army officer and collector, restored and combined these houses. Inside, you will discover his remarkable collection of Pharaonic, Islamic, and Asian artifacts. Furthermore, the museum offers a rare glimpse into traditional Ottoman domestic life in Cairo. Its wooden mashrabiyas, colorful tiles, and hidden courtyards make the visit truly special.
